Toll Roads Are Not A 21st Century Solution

The proposed Jefferson Parkway toll road is an old-fashioned solution that will simply encourage old-fashioned urban sprawl. There is ample evidence from other major metropolitan areas that the completion of a beltway project increases congestion and urban sprawl instead of reducing traffic. I support the twenty-first century thinking of the cities of Boulder, Golden and Superior as well as the County of Boulder, who suggest updating the transportation system of the West metro area by improving our existing roads and the development of a variety of transportation options – buses, light rail and even bikes. Transit systems must be considered as an urban use planning tool and not just a solution to an old-fashioned congestion problem.

There is no funding for interchange or connectivity from the state of Colorado to connect the beltway to HWY 93 or to Interlocken through C-470.
